Artist Statement
As long as I can remember I have always been interested by light and the way it can create and change the environments and materials it touches. In fact, according to my mom, I said one of my first words “blue” after picking up an empty glass crack vile off the sidewalk in Prospect Park and holding it up to the light of the sun. My obsession with light and glass has permeated into my art practice in innumerable ways but always with the similar themes of glass transforming light, or light transforming glass.
When I was in 6th grade I started learning how to blow glass and was introduced to the idea of hand blown lighting fixtures which has remained a special interest of mine up to the present. When I got to college I was introduced to video in the context of projection, which immediately drew my attention, as it was a way to manipulate light and change and create new environments.
As an artist, I like to try and translate the moods and character of urban culture and the people around me whether that’s through video projection, installations, lighting design, or performance. I was born in Brooklyn but moved when I was six and spent most of my life living in Baltimore so the gritty urban environment I spent most of my time in is often translated in some way through my videos or sculptural pieces.
